Look at it in this way: the time and resources invested in this will give them money to pay people to do nice things for you.
Other way they could just stop updating, leave the game as it is and use all their resources on GW2. And I don't really think a little team like this could do something as big as an expansion.

Considering they have kept the game on an even basis for all players for damn near (coming close now) 5 years I would say it's going to stay that way. How can so many people on here miss things that are so obvious? /sigh
I used to take a lot of pride as a GW player because this game requires more actual thought to play than it's competitors. Well, I still do but JESUS CHRIST! If you have the capacity to play GW then you should also have the capacity to see the obvious(this goes for what seems to be the majority of you)...I really need to stop coming this forum.

Artists != coders. There's no reason to believe that releasing costumes would in any way significantly push back content that they were planning on doing.
Also, what Mintha said: it's a cheap, easy way for them to make some money off of those who like this sort of thing. If you want them to make content this is a Good Thing (TM).

Laughing so hard over this. Bravo ANet, getting people all excited over more hot air. Maybe next time they won't be so gullible as to believe it might actually be worthwhile...

Because the upcoming events and quests aren't the "meat" of the content update...

I'm just glad my female sin has HIPS now. I hated the stick-figure model and the blades sticking out every which way on most of the assassin armors. This looks so much better!

Every pixel pony sold for 25 bucks in Blizzard's Store and every costume set in GW is supporting a bad trend.
Why pay once for a game if you can make at least a few players pay more money than ever before for a minimum of "content"?
We encourage them more and more to save the best and special shinies for the stores.
This crap becomes more profitable for the company than releasing a proper expansion yearly. Then still have to pay for expansions, and some things will become "DLC" or something similar for the shop.
There will be no more GW expansion till GW2 is out. But we are already at the 2nd set of costumes, which generates a lot of money.
Pay more, my Lord. The item shop is coming back, not only in GW, but in general. It is like boiling a frog. Slowly, but steadily.

You do know the whole chain of events with War in Kryta doesn't end since the release of costumes or the 5th birthday. This is just the start of playable content that will be released till GW2 comes. These current events we get to see and play part in set the lore and history for GW2 and there is much more to come.

A lot of people obviously don't like reading and assume this is the 5th anniversary gift in its entirety.
In any case, the Shining Blade costumes look pretty nifty. Not sure if I'd use it on my assassin since I like the more Asian looking armors. But since I'm not that fond of the twig like appearances of most of their clothing, I might give this a go if I have some spare cash to throw about.
The White Mantle looks pretty cool, though a bit top heavy in the shoulders. If that area was slimmed down, I wouldn't mind picking it up.

Less QQ and more realizing that instead of a subscription... realize that Arena net has a 5.99 option to get something that imho looks pretty cool and also support the company to keep producing more content and the new game Buying from Anet makes Anet Live which makes GW live and Gw2 continue developing !

Yes, the costumes are wonderful. The art team deserves an A+ for these. They are a bit Assassin's Creedish, but... oh well, they look superb! Kudos.

I'm mildly suprised with the armor, I thought they were going to be bland reskins of stuff in game. I decided to buy the shining blade set after seeing it ingame and it mixes dyes quite nicely, something a lot of the Eotn armors had problems with.
+1 happy customer

It's actually quite humorous how they managed to make brand new costumes for holidays, but failed to make something original for EotN, namely putting few costumes together, hoping the playerbase won't notice a thing.
